DESCRIPTION
Timbersilk™, produced by IFF, is a modern aroma chemical from the woody amber family, developed to give compositions a particular combination of warmth, softness, volume, and woody presence.
Its olfactory profile is characterised by a smooth, warm, woody, and ambery note, with a particularly soft and silky texture. It is a powerful raw material, but not necessarily aggressive: its formulation value lies precisely in its ability to increase the presence of the woody structure while maintaining a rounded, velvety, and harmonious sensation. It is used to give fullness and subtle strength to the foundation of a fragrance.
Its particular structure also allows it to work well with numerous olfactory families: woods, musks, ambers, florals, citrus, spices, and ambery materials can all be integrated around Timbersilk™, creating a continuous and modern base.
IFF indicates a substantivity of more than 48 hours and a typical usage level of up to 10%, values that confirm its importance particularly in heart and base structures.
From a chemical structure perspective, Timbersilk™ and Iso E Super® can be considered essentially the same material. The main difference between the two lies in the different balance of the isomers (the gamma isomer and Arborone) that make up the material and significantly influence its strength and olfactory perception. The greater presence of these components in Timbersilk™ contributes to a more intense and powerful perception, while maintaining the woody, ambery, soft, and velvety character typical of Iso E Super.
PERFUMERY
Timbersilk™ is particularly versatile and can be used in a wide variety of woody, ambery, musky, floral, citrus, and oriental compositions.
In woody accords, it provides an extremely effective base for increasing volume and presence. It can be used together with Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Patchouli, Cashmeran, and other modern woods to create structures that are deeper yet transparent.
Its particular softness makes it highly interesting in woody-amber accords, where it can connect dry woody materials with denser ambery components. In combination with Ambrox Super, Amber Xtreme™, and other ambery materials, it allows powerful and long-lasting bases to be constructed.
It is also highly effective in floral accords, where it can provide support without introducing an autonomous floral note. With Jasmine, Rose, Muguet, Violet, Orris, and white flowers, it can create a soft base that enhances the diffusion of the bouquet.
In citrus accords, Timbersilk™ makes it possible to create a woody base that extends and gives greater sophistication to the initial freshness. Bergamot, Grapefruit, Lemon, and Mandarin can be supported by Timbersilk™ to create more modern and long-lasting compositions.
It is particularly interesting in musky structures, where its velvety texture integrates easily with white musks and ambery materials.
In unisex and contemporary fragrances, Timbersilk™ can become one of the main structural materials, thanks to its ability to provide character without being excessively masculine or feminine.
It can also be used in leathery, tobacco, and oriental accords, where its woody-ambery component contributes to creating a softer and more modern base.

COSMETICS
In cosmetics, Timbersilk™ is particularly suitable as a fragrance ingredient for formulations characterised by woody, ambery, musky, and modern profiles.
It can be used in perfumes, body creams, lotions, shampoos, conditioners, cleansers, soaps, deodorants, and personal care products, where it contributes to creating a soft, elegant, and long-lasting olfactory signature.
Its versatility is particularly useful in cosmetic bases where a woody note is desired without becoming excessively dry or aggressive. In formulation, it can therefore be used as a connecting woody base, linking citrus, floral, and musky notes with the base.
Its good performance in shampoos, liquid cleansers, soaps, and fabric care products is documented in IFF's technical applications, while stability should always be evaluated in the specific formulation matrix.
