DESCRIPTION

Bicyclononalactone, also known as Octahydrocoumarin, is a lactone particularly appreciated for its creamy, soft, and enveloping profile, positioned midway between coumarin, tonka bean, and modern lactonic notes.

Its aroma combines sweet, hay-like, and slightly vanillic facets with a characteristic creaminess reminiscent of warm milk, soft tonka, and delicate coconut. Compared to traditional coumarin, it is generally rounder, less dry, and more velvety.

Thanks to its ability to improve texture and olfactory comfort, it is a particularly interesting raw material for the construction of gourmand, fougère, oriental, and amber accords, where it helps make compositions more harmonious and refined.

PERFUMERY

In perfumery, Bicyclononalactone is primarily used to bring a lactonic, tonka-like, and creamy facet to heart and base accords.

Its strength lies in its ability to modify the texture of a fragrance, making it softer, smoother, and more enveloping. Even at low concentrations, it can help soften the harsh edges of certain woody or amber bases, improving continuity between the different phases of the composition.

From a formulation perspective, it shows excellent affinity with coumarin, vanillin, ethyl vanillin, tonka bean, lactones, sandalwood, musks, and gourmand accords, helping create a richer and more natural sensation. It is particularly useful in the construction of tonka, milk, almond, praline, and sweet tobacco accords, to which it adds greater depth and roundness.
