DESCRIPTION

Safranal is the primary molecule responsible for the characteristic aroma of saffron, one of the most iconic and precious materials in perfumery. Appreciated for its spicy, leathery, and slightly aromatic profile, it is used to impart a distinctive, modern, and instantly recognizable olfactory signature to compositions.

Its scent combines saffron-like, warm, and dry nuances, with accents reminiscent of soft leather, blond tobacco, and aromatic spices. At low concentrations, it adds elegance and depth, while at higher dosages it becomes a central element of the olfactory structure.

Thanks to its high diffusion and strong characterizing power, Safranal is now one of the most widely used molecules in the creation of oud, amber, leather, and modern oriental accords, both in fine perfumery and scented cosmetics.

PERFUMERY

In perfumery, Safranal is used as a heart note material to introduce a saffron-like, spicy, and slightly leathery facet into a composition.

Its main characteristic is its ability to instantly provide identity and recognizability to an accord. Even in small amounts, it can transform a woody or amber base, adding depth, tension, and a distinctive olfactory signature.

It is particularly appreciated in the construction of oud, leather, modern amber, and oriental woody accords, where it helps create a richer and more sophisticated effect. It blends effectively with woods, patchouli, labdanum, musks, rose, and resinous notes, helping to build complex and well-structured olfactory architectures.

From a formulation perspective, Safranal is often used as a characterful spicy modifier, useful for adding lift and diffusion without weighing down the composition.
