HELIOTROPIN
Synonyms: Piperonal
Origin: Aromatic synthesis
DESCRIPTION
Heliotropin, also known as Piperonal, is one of the most important molecules in the construction of powdery, almond-like, and gourmand floral accords.
Its olfactory profile is sweet, powdery, and vanillic, with clear references to heliotrope, soft almond, and vanilla cream, accompanied by a slightly floral and balsamic nuance.
The 50% dilution in DPG facilitates formulation work, allowing more precise dosage management and better integration into compositions.
Heliotropin is a key raw material in both classic and modern perfumery, used to give fragrances a softer, more velvety, and enveloping sensation, especially in gourmand, powdery floral, and delicate oriental accords.
PERFUMERY
In perfumery, Heliotropin is used as a heart–base material to build powdery, almond-like, gourmand floral, and vanillic accords.
Its strength lies in its ability to give the composition a softer, creamier texture, creating a velvety effect that harmoniously links the different parts of the formula.
It is particularly effective in heliotrope, almond, iris, vanilla, and cherry accords, where it helps create a more rounded and sophisticated sensation.
From a formulation perspective, it works in excellent synergy with benzaldehyde, vanillin, ethyl vanillin, coumarin, ionones, and lactones, helping to build accords that are more cohesive, long-lasting, and three-dimensional.
It is not used solely for its characteristic note, but also as a texture modulator, useful for smoothing rough edges and improving the olfactory continuity of the composition.

COSMETICS
In cosmetics, Heliotropin is used as a fragrance component to introduce a powdery, almond-like, and delicately vanillic facet into formulations.
It is particularly appreciated in creams, lotions, body products, haircare, and gourmand cleansers, where it helps create a softer, more elegant, and comforting olfactory signature.
Its olfactory structure allows greater roundness in floral and sweet accords, while avoiding an overly sugary effect.
From a formulation perspective, it integrates easily into standard cosmetic bases, acting as a heart–base modifier useful for improving the harmony, longevity, and olfactory texture of the fragrance within the formula.
