DESCRIPTION
The Geranium essential oil offered by Floral Concept is cultivated in Egypt and obtained from the leaves and stems of Pelargonium graveolens, the “rose geranium” of perfumery. It should not be confused with the ornamental geraniums commonly found on balconies: it is a different plant, native to South Africa, which arrived in Europe in the seventeenth century and soon became popular first in gardens and then in perfumers’ laboratories. Its oil established itself as an accessible substitute for rose, and over time became a key material in its own right.
The most important cultivation areas developed on the island of Réunion, in China and in Egypt. Here, geranium is mainly cultivated on the fertile lands near the Nile and in irrigated areas south of the Delta, where the warm climate and rich soils favour consistent production. Egyptian geranium has a distinctive character: it is more green, fresh and slightly mentholated than other origins, with a clear rosy facet and a less sweet drydown.
Floral Concept is the company that selects and offers this oil for the perfumery market. The oil is obtained by steam distillation of leaves and stems harvested before flowering, when the plant is richest in essential oil. Its composition is dominated by the terpenic alcohols citronellol and geraniol, accompanied by their esters (citronellyl formate, geranyl tiglate), as well as linalool, isomenthone and traces of rose oxide, a molecule that gives the oil its rosy luminosity.
PERFUMERY
Geranium is the bridge between the green and the floral. On opening, it reveals an almost mentholated and crushed-leaf freshness, followed by a raw and luminous rose facet, with a fruity sharpness that has nothing sugary about it. As it develops, a balsamic and slightly leafy trail remains, with good substantivity. It is a heart note with a pronounced opening, capable of holding an entire composition together.
Its most classic role is in rose, where it supports and extends the flower without adding sweetness: with citronellol, phenylethyl alcohol and damascones, it creates convincing rose accords even with modest amounts of absolute. In lavender and fougère compositions, it is a cornerstone: combined with coumarin, oakmoss and lavender, it creates the characteristic fresh and clean aromatic-masculine accord. With patchouli, vetiver and labdanum, it bridges the gap between green and earthy facets, while with bergamot, grapefruit and mint, it creates fresh openings with the floral character already present. With pink pepper and cardamom, it becomes spicy and contemporary, while with ylang-ylang, jasmine and tuberose, it provides a green counterbalance to more opulent white florals. In ambery and powdery compositions, it brings a touch of airiness to dense bases.
Dosage ranges from refining touches to a few percentage points in fougère and rose compositions, as its green-mentholated note tends to emerge clearly.

AROMATHERAPY
Geranium is the essence of balance. In diffusion, it neither warms nor stimulates: it centres. It can soften nervousness and haste in a room, replacing them with the sensation of a well-tended, fresh and serene garden, useful on days when everything seems out of place. Its rosy facet makes it comforting without becoming excessively sweet.
Traditionally associated with emotional well-being and the female cycle, it is among the oils commonly used in blends for periods of mood fluctuation. It blends well with lavender and bergamot for difficult evenings, with clary sage and rose for softer atmospheres, and with frankincense and sandalwood for a more intimate setting. It is also a traditional natural insect repellent for indoor environments, with a long history of use in burners and scented sachets. In massage, always diluted in a carrier oil, it provides a fresh floral note that complements moments of personal care.
COSMETICS
In cosmetic formulations, Geranium is a versatile floral heart. Where true rose is costly and heavy, it provides a clean, green and immediately recognisable floral character, suited to lines that aim to convey naturalness and care, without the sweetness associated with other florals.
It adapts to a wide range of products: face and body creams and lotions, soaps, gentle cleansers, shampoos and conditioners, deodorants and fragranced waters, as well as candles and home fragrances. It is a classic choice for lines inspired by herbal traditions and spas, where it pairs naturally with lavender, chamomile and citrus notes. Its green-mentholated component also helps bring freshness to rich, buttery or creamy bases.
