DESCRIPTION

Fraistone is a synthetic aroma chemical developed by IFF (International Flavors & Fragrances), one of the world’s leading producers of ingredients for perfumery and flavours. Its name recalls the French fraise, meaning “strawberry”, and clearly reflects its purpose: to give perfumers a distinctive, stable and reproducible strawberry character from batch to batch.

Its olfactory signature combines a fresh and slightly tart fruity component with a characteristic anisic facet, creating an effect that is more complex than a simple sweet fruity material. IFF describes Fraistone as a note evocative of strawberry, but also apple and plum, and highlights its excellent performance.

This is a technical necessity more than a stylistic choice. Strawberry, like many delicate fruits, does not yield a usable essential oil: its fragrance arises from a balance of fragile molecules that is lost during processing. For this reason, in modern perfumery, the strawberry note is constructed using synthetic ingredients such as this one, allowing the fruit to be recreated with realism and consistency.

PERFUMERY

To the nose, Fraistone is ripe and juicy strawberry, with a full sweetness tending towards caramelised and jammy facets, closer to sweetened fruit than to an unripe and tart berry. Beneath the fruity aspect, there is a creamy and slightly lactonic side that rounds out the note and makes it soft. It is a heart note with good substantivity, appreciated more in the body of the composition than in the opening alone.

Its role is to add volume and gourmand richness to red fruit. In fruity and fruity-floral compositions, it blends with raspberry, peach, lactones and white flowers, while alongside rose and geranium, it brings a playful and luminous character. In gourmand compositions, it is in its element: with vanilla, tonka, ethyl maltol, caramel and milky notes, it builds dessert-like accords, from strawberry cream to marshmallow. With white musks and ambroxan, it transforms into a transparent and cottony fruit, while in the opening, supported by bergamot and pink pepper, it creates a freshly cut fruit effect with a more contemporary edge. To achieve a greener and more realistic strawberry effect, it is advisable to add green notes.

It can be used from a refining touch to generous dosages in compositions where fruit is the main focus, proceeding through gradual trials to avoid becoming overly “candy-like”.

COSMETICS

In cosmetics, Fraistone is an instant appeal enhancer. Its ripe strawberry aroma is enough to make a product feel cheerful, indulgent and immediately recognisable, with a nostalgic childhood quality that feels reassuring and brings a smile. It is a natural choice for children’s and teenagers’ ranges, bubble baths, shower gels, shampoos, conditioners and soaps with a playful character, as well as for lip care and gourmand-style body products.

It also performs well in candles, home fragrances and room fragrances, where its sweetness fills the space with a warm, comforting, dessert-like trail. As with all sweet fruity materials, it is advisable to check stability and colour in the final base, particularly in formulations with extreme pH values or exposed to light, where gourmand notes may evolve over time. Confirm compatibility and documentation for cosmetic use with the supplier.
