DESCRIPTION
Calone® 1951, developed by Firmenich, is one of the most revolutionary aromachemicals in modern perfumery. Widely recognised as the molecule that gave rise to the iconic family of marine and aquatic fragrances, it has profoundly influenced the evolution of contemporary perfumery since the 1990s.
Its olfactory profile is instantly recognisable: a combination of sea breeze, crystal-clear water, ozone, fresh watermelon, and green melon, enriched by a distinctive saline and subtly metallic nuance. This olfactory signature conveys an exceptional sense of freshness and transparency, evoking the ocean air, waves breaking along the shore, and the radiant brightness of wide open spaces.
At low concentrations, Calone® 1951 imparts naturalness and luminosity to fresh accords; at higher dosages, it becomes a prominent note, creating the distinctive aquatic effect that made an entire generation of fragrances famous.
Also available diluted at 10% in DPG for professional perfumery use.
PERFUMERY
In perfumery, Calone® 1951 is used to create aquatic, marine, ozonic, and transparent accords, to which it imparts an immediate sensation of freshness and spaciousness.
Its defining characteristic lies in its ability to recreate the impression of water and sea air without becoming excessively cold or artificial when correctly dosed. Incorporated into modern formulations, it enhances the diffusion of top notes and brings lightness to the fragrance structure, creating a luminous and dynamic effect.
From a formulation perspective, it shows excellent affinity with Hedione®, Floralozone®, Helional®, Dihydromyrcenol, bergamot, grapefruit, lemon, violet leaf, white musks, Iso E Super®, Ambrox® Super, and light woods, contributing to the creation of oceanic, rain, clean air, green tea, aquatic floral, and contemporary citrus accords.
Although historically associated with marine fragrances, Calone® 1951 is now also widely used in floral, green, and musky compositions, where it is incorporated in small amounts to amplify the sensation of transparency and provide greater openness to the entire formula.
