DESCRIPTION

The Jasmine Grandiflorum Absolute processed by Floral Concept in Saint-Cézaire-sur-Siagne, near Grasse, is obtained from flowers of Jasminum grandiflorum cultivated in India. This species, also known as Spanish or Royal Jasmine, is native to the area spanning South Asia and the Middle East and spread over the centuries along trade routes towards the Mediterranean. Today, India, particularly the districts of Tamil Nadu and the Madurai region, is one of the main production areas, thanks to its warm climate and long tradition of flower cultivation and harvesting.

The processing is delicate and almost entirely manual. The flowers are harvested at dawn, when their essential oil content is at its highest, and must be processed very quickly because their fragrance deteriorates rapidly. As the heat of distillation would damage its delicate character, jasmine is extracted using volatile solvents: first, a concrete is obtained, a waxy mass containing the aromatic components together with plant waxes, and from this, through washing with ethanol and cold filtration, the absolute is produced. It is a viscous, orange to brown-coloured liquid with an extraordinarily faithful aroma of the flower. It is one of the most precious natural raw materials, as a very large quantity of flowers is required to obtain a small amount of product.

From a chemical perspective, it is a complex composition in which benzyl acetate, benzyl benzoate, linalool, phytol, methyl jasmonate, cis-jasmone and indole stand out, together with many other compounds present in smaller quantities.

Grandiflorum or Sambac? They are two different species with distinct olfactory profiles. Grandiflorum is more fruity, green and luminous, with a sweetness reminiscent of pear, tea and leaves, and is the classic jasmine of Western perfumery. Sambac (Jasminum sambac), the flower used for jasmine tea and Indian garlands, is instead more fleshy, animalic and creamy, with a richness of indole and nuances reminiscent of ripe apricot and tuberose, creating a denser and more sensual effect. In short: Grandiflorum for luminosity and freshness, Sambac for depth and sensuality.

Our catalogue also includes Jasmine Grandiflorum (Italy) Nat Infuse by Capua 1880, obtained from Jasminum grandiflorum flowers cultivated and processed in Italy through an alcoholic extraction process followed by concentration. Compared with a traditional Grandiflorum absolute, Nat Infuse presents a particularly luminous, transparent and realistic profile, with white floral, green, slightly fruity and honeyed nuances, designed to recreate the sensation of freshly picked jasmine flowers.

Also available in a 10% dilution in Natural TEC for professional use in perfumery.

PERFUMERY

Olfactively, Jasmine Grandiflorum is a vivid white floral: the opening is green, fruity and almost tea-like, with a luminosity that gives the composition breathing space, followed by a sweet and floral heart with a creamy softness and a delicate animalic nuance provided by indole, making the flower feel as though it were still on the plant. The drydown leaves a warm, balsamic and subtly waxy-honeyed trail with excellent substantivity. It is a heart note with remarkable persistence, capable of filling the composition and carrying it through to the final stages.

Jasmine is one of the most important ingredients in classic floral perfumery. With rose, ylang-ylang and tuberose, it creates rich and opulent bouquets, while with orange blossom, neroli and tiare, it builds luminous white-floral accords reminiscent of a bridal bouquet. In chypre compositions, it appears alongside oakmoss, labdanum and patchouli, providing a soft and feminine heart, while in modern fougère compositions it softens lavender and coumarin. With sandalwood, vanilla, benzoin and amber, it creates warm, creamy and sensual drydowns, while bergamot, mandarin and pink pepper give it a fresher opening. With orris and white musks, it creates a soft and clean floral effect, almost cotton-like, while with leather and tobacco, it creates an elegant and slightly dark contrast.

COSMETICS

In cosmetic formulation, Jasmine Grandiflorum is an ingredient of perceived luxury. Even a small dosage can make a product feel less ordinary and acquire the character of elegant floral cosmetics, warm and enveloping, of the kind consumers associate with treatment, ritual and premium positioning. Its strength lies in adding richness without the excessive sweetness associated with other florals.

It is well suited to premium products: body creams and butters, oils, balms, artisanal soaps, hand care products and gentle cleansers, as well as candles and home fragrances with a boutique character. It also works well in spa and beauty ritual lines, where it pairs naturally with sandalwood, vanilla and citrus notes. Being viscous and oil-soluble, it integrates well into oil phases, while aqueous bases require a suitable solubiliser.
