Country of origin: India
Country of manufacturing: France
Extraction method: Solvent extraction
DESCRIPTION
The Jasmine Sambac Absolute processed by Floral Concept is obtained from flowers cultivated in India and comes from Jasminum sambac, Arabian Jasmine, also known as mogra in India and melati in Indonesia. It is a plant native to South Asia, closely connected for centuries with the daily and religious life of the subcontinent: the flowers are woven into garlands for temples and ceremonies, worn in the hair and used to flavour jasmine tea. It is also the national flower of the Philippines, where it is known as sampaguita.
The flowers are hand-picked, generally in the late afternoon and evening, when the buds are about to open, and must be processed very quickly to preserve the delicacy of their fragrance. The flower first yields a concrete through extraction with a volatile solvent, followed by washing with ethanol and cold filtration to obtain the absolute, a viscous, dark orange to brown-coloured liquid with an exceptionally rich aroma. The yield is low and harvesting is labour-intensive, making it one of the most precious natural raw materials.
From a chemical perspective, it is a complex composition. Characteristic components include indole, benzyl acetate, linalool, benzyl benzoate and methyl jasmonate, together with many minor compounds that contribute to its fruity and creamy nuances.
Sambac, Grandiflorum and Nat Infuse: which one to choose? In our catalogue, the comparison can be made from several perspectives. Sambac is the jasmine of density and sensuality: creamy and warm, with an animalic facet reminiscent of tuberose. The Grandiflorum Absolute from India is more luminous, green and fruity, with a sweetness reminiscent of tea and pear. CAPUA1880's Italian Grandiflorum Nat Infuse presents the same flower through a European interpretation, fresh and terroir-driven. Three expressions that do not replace one another but rather complement each other: in richer compositions, Sambac provides body, while Grandiflorum provides airiness.
Also available in a 10% dilution in Natural TEC for professional use in perfumery.
PERFUMERY
Sambac is the jasmine that does not ask for permission. The opening is immediately creamy and sweet, with a hint of ripe fruit (apricot, grape, black tea) and a green facet that quickly fades. Then comes its most characteristic aspect: an indolic and fleshy note, almost reminiscent of warm skin, giving the flower a sensual and slightly provocative aura. The drydown leaves a waxy-balsamic trail with excellent substantivity. While Grandiflorum feels like a flower picked in the morning, this is a night-time flower.
Its strength lies in its intensity: even a small amount can change the temperature of a composition. In white florals, it blends with tuberose, gardenia, ylang-ylang and orange blossom, creating opulent nocturnal bouquets, while alongside tiare it develops a distinctive milky, coconut-like and solar character. With sandalwood, vanilla, benzoin and amber, it creates creamy and enveloping bases typical of oriental perfumery. In modern chypre compositions, together with patchouli and oakmoss, it brings a darker and deeper femininity. With tea, bergamot and cardamom, it opens into a subtler territory between jasmine tea and oriental florals, while with leather and frankincense it creates an elegant and slightly ritualistic contrast. With animalic notes, musk and ambrette enhance its fleshy dimension.

COSMETICS
In cosmetics, Sambac works through a sense of intimacy. Its fragrance is warm, soft and long-lasting, suited to products that seek to evoke ritual, care and sensuality, rather than freshness. Where Grandiflorum brings luminosity, Sambac provides enveloping warmth: making it a natural choice for oriental, spa and wellness lines, as well as products inspired by night-blooming flowers.
It is well suited to body butters and oils, rich creams, balms, artisanal soaps, hand care products and cleansers, as well as candles and home fragrances with a boutique character, where it provides a full and enveloping trail. It is oil-soluble, so it integrates well into oil phases, while aqueous bases require a solubiliser.
